The people behind BM Electrical Wholesale Limited. 

For any successful company a large proportion of the credit must go to the employees. This is undoubtedly the case at BM Electrical Wholesale where our team of workers are the most valuable asset we have in trying to compete against multi-national companies.

The general management and administration for the whole company is carried out in Coleraine, and the management team are as follows:

Ken Magee, Director

Ken is a founder partner in the firm. As a time-served electrician and also a branch manager with Northern Ireland Electrical Industries and Walsall Conduits, Ken has worked on both sides of the trade counter before establishing BM Electrical with Alister Browne in 1993.  

He has been responsible for the day-to-day general management of the company and co-ordinates purchasing for the three  branches, utilizing over 30 years of experience in the electrical wholesale  trade.

He said, "It has been a challenge, but I was confident that our feelings on how customers should be treated were felt by those in the trade. I have never regretted the decision to form BM Electrical Electrical Wholesale”.

"Our customer service is at the core of everything we aim to achieve. We work hard to find a balance between price and quality and I believe with our superior stock levels and experienced staff, we can offer a unique service.I enjoy working alongside our customers and am delighted that so many have remained loyal to us over the years."

Alister Browne, Director 

As the other founder partner, Alister as a qualified electrician, and then as a sales representative, also with over 25 years in the electrical wholesale industry, Alister has vast experience of the electrical trade.

As well as being in charge of the distribution team, he has also been responsible for driving company sales and has spent a large proportion of his time meeting customers face-to-face and working to meet their needs. It is this aspect of the job that he enjoys.

"I enjoy the people aspect of the business and finding out what our customers want," he said. "At the end of the day, meeting customer needs is one of the main reasons we set up the business in the first place, so this plays an important part in our work."

It is a real team effort at BM Electrical and we all work together to provide a quality and personal service."  

Ken Robinson, General Manager 

A trained consultant engineer, Ken joined the team at BM Electrical in February 2007 as the General Manager. He previously worked with Ansell Lighting for 10 years and was with CEF for twelve years, so has a great experience product application and of the market in Northern Ireland.

He has already been impressed with the way BM Electrical operates and is looking forward to being part of such a successful team in the future. "Ken and Alister have invested in me to help the company move forward in terms of growth and also to plan ahead for the future," he said. "BM Electrical already has an unrivalled reputation in the industry and I am delighted to be working for such a well-respected team”.

"We offer a complete service to both the public and private sectors, and I hope that I can build on the success that BM Electrical have already achieved. It is my intention to grow the business in many aspects – sales, marketing initiatives with suppliers, staff training, product awareness, professionalism and specialist stocking" 

Sean McCotter, Company Administrator

Along with Ken and Alister, Sean has worked with BM Electrical from the very beginning. He is currently in charge of Quality Control and Credit Control, and is an important member of the management team.

Sean is also responsible for the implimantation and maintenance of our computer system and communications. He has been instrumental in establishing manuals of best practice, which ensures that customers continuously get the highest possible quality of service.

He said, "While I may work more behind the scenes, I still realise the importance of customer service and I am delighted to have been able to play a role in the company's success."

Uel Peden, Branch Manager, Ballymena

Uel's role at BM Electrical reflects how the company acknowledges the hard work of their staff. He joined the company after leaving school in 1993, and over the years, acquired considerable knowledge and experience in the electrical wholesale business.

After working for the company for eight years, in a sales capacity, at the Coleraine branch, Uel was promoted to Branch Manager at Ballymena. His product knowledge and sales experience acquired over this time has earned him much respect from customers, suppliers and colleagues alike. "I have been lucky enough to learn a lot from my colleagues and from our customers over the years," he said. "At BM Electrical it is less about learning the company's sales techniques and more about getting to know your customers, and that is an aspect of the job that I really enjoy."  

The Sales Team 

The company now has a dedicated external sales team of three highly motivated sales representatives.  

David Henry 

David Henry has been with the company since 1999, and has progressed up through the ranks from stores, van deliveries, counter and telephone sales to representative. This gives Davy an invaluable knowledge of the products he has on offer. Davy operates from the Coleraine branch, and covers the north coast, Coleraine and Mid Ulster areas.

Paul Caldwell                     

Paul Caldwell joined the company in 2006 has been with the Coleraine branch for almost two years, and is a time served electrician. He has fitted into his new career with great enthusiasm, and now represents the company in the west of the province, covering Tyrone and Derry areas, and now works out of the new Derry branch.  

Thomas McCalmont 

Thomas McCalmont is our most recent signing, joining us in 2007 from Ansell Lighting and formerly with CEF Ltd. Thomas has gained first hand knowledge over this period, and is proving a great asset to our sales team. Thomas’s area is south Antrim, mid Antrim, Antrim coast, Ballymena and North Belfast, and works out of the Ballymena branch. 

The rest of The Team 

All members of our staff play an important part in their respective branch roles. They are vital to our success and handle a number of key duties, including efficient telephone sales and advice, counter sales, stock control, warehouse duties, product sourcing, stock control and van deliveries. We are very fortunate to have a team of loyal and dedicated staff, most of who have been with us for many years.
